Mallika Sherawat


Mallika Sherawat, born on October 24, 1981, is an Indian actress who has acted in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Chinese and English films. She holds a university degree in Indian philosophy and she graduated from Miranda House of Delhi University. Sherawat has been voted as one of Asia's 100 most beautiful people by the Hong Kong based fashion and beauty magazine, Cover.

In 2002 Mallika Sherawat had a special appearance in the Hindi movie “Jeena Sirf Mere Liye”, but her name was shown in the credits as Reema Lamba, her original name, before she started using her screen name Mallika Sherawat.

Her performance in the 2003 Hindi movie Khwahish attained instant stardom for her as her performance was well received by the audience and it brought critical acclaim for her.

Mallika Sherawat’s Hindi movie Murder, one of the biggest hits of 2004, won for her a nomination for Best Actress at the Zee Cine Awards for her performance.

When Mallika Sherawat was signed up for a small role in the Jackie Chan movie, The Myth, it brought her widespread publicity and then she made an appearance at the Cannes Film Festival to promote The Myth.

Her performance in the 2006 film Pyaar Ke Side Effects, starring Rahul Bose and a moderate success at the box office, was also appreciated by the Bollywood film industry and the audience.

In 2007 she had a special appearance in Himesh Reshammiya's hit film “Aap Ka Suroor - The Real Love Story”, with which she has become the most expensive "Item Girl" of Indian films. Her film “Welcome”, also of 2007, was a blockbuster.

She appeared in an item number in the Kannada film Preeti Eke Bhoomi Melide (2007) and then she debuted in Kollywood (Tamil) film industry playing one of the female lead roles in the movie Dasavathaaram (2008), starring Kamal Haasan, Asin and Jayapradha.

Recently the promo of the Mallika Sherawat starrer Hissss (originally known as “Nagin: The Snake Woman”, also starring Jeff Doucette, Irrfan Khan and Divya Dutta), directed by Jennifer Lynch was out. The movie is shot simultaneously in English and Hindi. Special effects designer Robert Kurtzman is responsible for developing the look of the snake woman.

The film Hissss, based on the legend of Naga, is about a snake woman (Nagin) whose mate is captured by an American hunter. The snake woman decides to take revenge on the hunter. The trailer of Hissss shows Mallika Sherawat slithering in mud and becoming a deadly snake.
